Divorce / Dissolution of Marriage
Divorce is when two people end their marriage. The proper term is “Dissolution of Marriage.” A marriage may be legally dissolved in California, restoring spouses to “single” status only by (a) death of one of the parties; (b) a judgment of marriage dissolution; or (c) a judgment of nullity of marriage (also known as an “annulment”)
A divorce can be traumatic to both spouses, and if there are children in can be worse.
A divorce consists of the termination of the marriage, child custody and visitation orders if there are minor children, division of marital property, child support and spousal support. There can also be additional issues, such as attorney fees and dividing pensions.
